Friends, Aliens, and Prairie Dogs, in New Mexico

Hi Everyone!

It's been a good week here, and as I think it's spring break week in Ohio, we hope you're all having a great week, too!  This week, as we've continued exploring New Mexico, we were fortunate to be able to meet up again with the family we made friends with in New Orleans.  We went to the zoo together.

and saw prairie dogs together.  Prairie dogs are really the most fun animal to watch.  I half wish I could keep one in our camper.   The prairie dogs are certainly much nicer than the mountain lions we saw there.  I'm so happy we haven't seen one of those in the wild yet!  The Living Desert zoo was really neat, in that it had all local animals (injured and rescued) and plants.

We got to hike around in the desert at Brantley Lake State Park.  It was really scenic, and we saw no snakes, which was a big bonus.

We also went back to Carlsbad Caverns to explore the above-ground aspects of the park.  First, our kids all became junior rangers and all took their oaths.

We got to see a whole bunch of javelinas (sort of like a wild pig, but not a wild pig) and also hike more desert nature trails.  One trail involved a short walk to a little overhang, at which we enjoyed playing.

It was a fantastic week with friends, and I'm so happy God blessed us with friends while we're on the road!

Since our family is a little stranger, we took a day to go see Roswell, New Mexico.  We skipped all the "aliens really landed here" kinds of attractions, but we got a whole bunch of great photo ops with "aliens."  We had a fun time posing and seeing the quirky little town.  This was more Char's desire to visit, but now that we've done it, I can say I really enjoy seeing unique and quirky places in the U.S.!

Roswell also had a free zoo, so we figured we should go, and we had a good time seeing the Texas Longhorn.  It's fun to see the animals that are unique to the area!

This completes our first week of exploring New Mexico.  We hope you're having a good week wherever you are, and that you're not beamed up to the ceiling by an alien!  Ha!  :D
